Benjamin Hayek was born in Iowa City in 1977. He received a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts in 1999. After spending two years as a PGA Apprentice Assistant Golf Professional in Scottsdale, Arizona, Ben returned to Iowa City to attend the University of Iowa College of Law in 2001. Prior to receiving his J.D. in 2003, Ben served as a law clerk to United States Senator Charles E. Grassley in Washington, D.C., served as a judicial intern to United States District Court Judge Ronald E. Longstaff in Des Moines, and was a member of the Iowa Law Review. After receiving a M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Iowa Graduate College in 2004, Ben served as the first judicial law clerk to newly appointed Minnesota District Court Judge Michael R. Savre. After his clerkship year, Ben entered the private practice of law in Minneapolis, where his practice focused on insurance coverage and defense litigation. Ben returned to Iowa City to join our firm as an associate in 2008.

Ben's memberships include the Iowa State Bar Association  (Family/Juvenile and Criminal Law Sections), the Iowa Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association, the Legal Writing Institute, and the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies.  His most recent publication is Morality, Professionalism, and Happiness, 8 Engage 1, 135 (February 2007), and a recent published case is Tinucci v. Allstate Ins. Co., 487 F.Supp.2d 1058 (D. Minn. 2007).

Ben has been admitted to practice before the following courts: State of Minnesota (2005), United States District Court - District of Minnesota (2005), United States Court of Appeals - Eighth Circuit (2005), and State of Iowa (2008).

Ben has a general law practice with a focus on insurance coverage and defense litigation, criminal defense, domestic relations, probate, and real estate.
