Joe Moreland was born in Ottumwa in 1970.  He received a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1992 and a J.D., with distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1994.  Joe became an associate at our firm in 1997 and a partner in 2000.

In addition to his law practice, Joe has dedicated significant time to the legal community.  He is a member of the Johnson County Bar Association (Legal Aid Committee), the Iowa State Bar Association (Annual Meeting Committee), the American Bar Association, the Iowa Association of Trial Lawyers, and the Iowa Defense Counsel Association. He has also been an active participant in the Iowa State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division by serving as President-Elect from 2003 to 2004, as President from 2004 to 2005, and as a member of the Executive Council from 1998 to 2006.  Joe was appointed by the Iowa Supreme Court to serve on the Sixth Judicial District's Judicial Nominating Commission, which nominates candidates for the governor's selection as district court judges.

Outside the legal realm, Joe has been an active member of the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce, the Johnson County Compensation Board, and the Board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Johnson County.

Joe has been admitted to practice before the following courts: State of Iowa Bar (1995) and United States District Court - Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa (1995).

Joe's published cases include: Thavenet v. Davis, 589 N.W.2d 233 (Iowa, 1999) and Poole v. Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, Inc., 666 N.W.2d 560 (Iowa, 2003).

Joe has a general law practice with a focus on litigation, civil defense, criminal defense, real estate, domestic relations, estate planning, and personal injury.
